Cool Force and Shadowing

Students in grades 5-8 will be required to fulfill a community service component (Cool Force)as an essential part of their educational experience. This requirement is based on a student’s right to participate, his/her responsibility to serve and the valuable resources he/she has to offer. Students in grades five through eight must complete the following hours outside their regular school hours; grade 5 (5 hrs.), grade 6 (6 hrs.), grade 7 (7 hrs.), and grade 8 (8 hrs.). These hours will need to be completed by the end of the second trimester.
In addition to completing the required service hours, students will need to complete their service log for full credit. Please note: as a member of their own family, it is naturally expected that a student have rights and responsibilities and should contribute positively to their family. Consequently, as their community service requirement, it is deemed that all students should contribute beyond their family unit.
The shadowing experience is for students in seventh and eighth grade only. In addition to the other requirements of the Connections class, all 7th and 8th grade students will be asked to complete a shadowing experience. Shadowing allows students time with a professional in an area of student interest in order to gather information, clarify questions and provide first-hand experiences. Students may also shadow at a high school they are planning to attend. It is the responsibility of each student to arrange their own shadowing experience with approval from their Connections teacher and their parents.
Seventh grade students are required to fulfill one half day of shadowing per year. Eighth grade students are required to fulfill one full day of shadowing per year.
