Here are the results from a pretty awesome day at Campus on Saturday:
Challenge had 5 teams representing grades 5-8, there were about 45 teams at the tournament, split into two divisions.
Teams competed in the robot game (what you see them doing upstairs in the afternoon) where their Lego robot has to perform missions to earn points.
They also interviewed with judges in three different categories: robot design, research project(related to this year's theme: trash), and core values (teamwork).
Challenge had two teams win first place in research project: The Digi-Ninjas and Trash Trekkies.
One team won first place for robot performance: Geek Tek
And two teams took the Champions Award (best overall team in all categories): 2 Evil 4 Genius and Geek Tek. These last two teams will advance to the state tournament in January.
Parents and grandparents help me mentor the teams, and they are awesome in their support for the kids: Joel Contreras, Steve Benn (Decker Clark's grandpa, Kathleen Chabin, and Srinivas Raj (Sreekar's dad), and Jeff Garber attended practices twice a week and on weekends at their houses.
The kids were awesome, positive, hard-working, and had TONS of fun this year, and we have great support from our parents.
