The primary responsibility of the mental health program is to provide crisis intervention and consultation services, as well as collaboration with teachers to deliver universal Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) instruction. For students needing additional skill building and practice, the mental health team provides both individual and group counseling on topics, such as emotion regulation, stress management, social skills, and conflict resolution. The mental health team can also provide support to students with academic and/or personal concerns.
Additionally, our mental health team collaborates with the special education team, as well as provide mental health services for students on IEPs. Families can connect with a mental health team member if they need access to resources, such as housing, food, and/or financial support.

Suicide Prevention Classroom Visits - Signs of Suicide
The Challenge Mental Health Team and School Counselor deliver Signs of Suicide lessons in classrooms beginning in September to 6th-8th graders . Fifth graders are not included, as the curriculum is not designed for their grade level and is not developmentally appropriate for them. This program is delivered to all 6-12th grade students in CCSD. Signs of Suicide is a research-based program to provide students with skills to help themselves or peers in need of mental health support.
